The school was a central element in the life of the parish. It opened on September 10, 1957 with 4 grades and 4 Irish Sisters of Charity - Sr. Frances Paul (4th grade teacher and principal), Sr. Mary Augustine (3rd grade), Sr. Joseph Paul (2nd grade), and Sister John Fisher (1st grade). Additionaly, 4 lay women also taught the first year – Anna Manning, Anne Frieburg, Arlene Brummel, and Ethel Blake.

The first class of 48 students graduated from the 8th grade in June 1962. Many of the students from the earliest graduating class have maintained ties with the school and the parish. Some graduates have enrolled their children and grandchildren at the school. An original parishioner, Jackie DeDonato, has grandchildren enrolled in the grade school.

Since its inception in 1962, over 1500 students have graduated from St. Bridget of Sweden School and have moved to make valuable contributions to the community. Two of its alumni Angela Ni (2001) and Emma Quadra (2005) consistently served as class presidents of the Associated Student Body (ASB) of the Notre Dame High School in Riverside. Six of its alumni have since come back to teach at the school.
